I've worked in the Space industry for fifteen years and am currently working with the European Space Agency considering platforms (software, business, infrastructure) which would facilitate the exploitation of the large quantities of satellite data that have been acquired over the last few decades, and which continue to be added to daily. In particular we're interested in where existing (or potential) open standards and open source projects could help achieve to this, and how the benefits of open source collaboration can best be sold to various European organisations who've participated in a very limited way in the past.
